Buda Castle
Once you are in Budapest, your number one goal should be visiting Buda Castle. Although no king lives here anymore, this area may be the most historical part of Budapest with its narrow streets and cute houses around the castle itself. While here, check out the National Gallery and the stunning view over Pest.
Fisherman’s Bastion
If you are already in the Castle, there is one sight you just can’t miss. Although the Fisherman’s Bastion’s second floor is reserved for paying customers, you can still take some good pictures from the first floor.
Walk along the riverbank
As you might already know, Buda and Pest (once two separate cities) were united in 1873, but the two sides are still a little bit different. If you spend a few days in the city, you should definitely explore the Danube Banks and at least the freshly renovated Chain Bridge.
Take a rest at Margaret Island
Margaret Island is actually one of the biggest parks in the city, so if your schedule is full and want to take a rest in the afternoon, this is definitely the place to do so. Oh, and don’t forget to try the famous Hungarian langos!
Széchenyi Thermal Baths
Although it might be increasingly difficult to spot locals at Budapest’s famous Széchenyi Thermal Bath, the architecture is just stunning. Are you looking for some refreshment after walking around all day long? You might not want to miss the pool party on Saturday!
Memento Park
As you have probably heard, Hungary has a communist past. The reason why you don’t bump into socialist relics all the time is that the Communist-era statues were moved to the Memento Park. If you are interested in the hidden gems of Budapest, this is the place to go.
St. Stephen’s Basilica
If you like Europe for its magnificent cathedrals, you won’t be disappointed in Budapest. St. Stephen’s Basilica should be on your to-do list before you head down to the Danube Bank.
Ruin Bars

Central Market Hall
Budapest’s not-so-hidden gems are its beautifully designed market halls, so if you are looking for an extended walking tour this is something we definitely recommend. Visit the market halls at Hunyadi tér, Rákóczi tér, Klauzál tér, Hold utca, Batthyány tér and of course the Central Market Hall at Fővám tér.
