We won’t sugarcoat it – the fairytale winter wonderland you’re imagining is becoming harder to find, as snow is less common in Budapest these days. But it’s not impossible! If you visit in late December, you might catch a snowy view from Gellért Hill or the Buda Castle. Even without snow, we highly recommend spending your Christmas vacation in the city. Why? The famous Christmas markets at Vörösmarty Square and St. Stephen’s Basilica offer all kinds of Hungarian delicacies. If you love trying a bit of everything, you’ll have a blast.
Springtime with Smaller Crowds
Although March, April, and May can be unpredictable weather-wise, March tends to be a bit chilly, while by May, you can probably leave your jacket behind. Expect some rain, but this season is popular among those looking to avoid the summer crowds. Summertime – Get Ready to Sweat
As you’d expect, summer is peak tourist season. This time of year is generally dry, though it’s wise to keep an umbrella handy in June for surprise showers. It can get pretty hot (July and August can see temperatures soar to 27°C or 98°F), but Budapest is absolutely stunning during these months. Summer is all about having fun, so make sure to hit up at least one of Hungary’s major music festivals. We highly recommend the Sziget Festival if you’re into international and local bands!
Visit in the Fall
Looking for a more relaxed vacation with fewer tourists and more comfy temperatures? While good weather might last through October, you won’t have to deal with any major heatwaves after September. This is the perfect time to see Budapest in all its glory without the summer crowds – you can enjoy all the tourist attractions at your own pace.
